The chips and cans of Coca- Cola
are spread across the coffee table.
Before us, the Canucks
take the puck
And the crashes of the players
crawl on the boards to give it a little
shake
We never imagined we'd get to this
point, game seven against the ever
so hated Chicago Blackhawks.
And as the clock creeped down
slowly, sweat condensed from
our foreheads,
and our breathing became short.
Because a second later,
our hearts would be crushed,
as Toews scored to tie the game,
and the chants faded away beneath the concrete.

And so overtime came and the
couches were not needed,
as we began to lean forward to
shiver and create goosebumps with our coldness.
A little into overtime, I started to clap
and the whole entire city started to chant.
Until the whistle got cowardly blown,
for a penalty on Burrows.

After the click ended the time for the penalty,
we let out a cry of relief.
A few minutes later, the game changed.
And our city's core blew into a million pieces,
as Burrows caught the black leather doughnut in mid air,
and whacked it to make it crack in the net.
Canucks two, Chicago one.
The chapter of the season ended for one team,
and was just beginning for other.
